A Typical Class: Our classes focus on the foundations of Olympic Sport Fencing, but we also incorporate, choreography, stage combat training, and with that, a variety of martial arts and some light tumbling. Students are learning sword skills from both Chinese and Japanese culture, and weapons training in a variety of other styles also. I like to start classes with a warm up and strength building exercise session, and then spend some time on technical instruction and open fencing. Afterwards, the class will participate in either development of their choreography, or enjoy one of our many fencing inspired games! Choreography: Students work with each other in development of choreography based on scenes from a movie, play, or show that has fencing involved in it. They then spend some time recreating the scene using their own skills. Later on, we film their work and put together a nice video showcase that they can share with friends and family. Bio: Coach Ryan Shanahan Is a certified member of the USFCA (United States Fencing Coaches Association). He began fencing in College where he also received his Bachelor of Arts degree in April of 2011. He is always eager to share what he has learned in this, one of the greatest sports ever made. Additionally, student will learn to master a variety of other swords styles and weapons from around the world as well as some tumbling and martial arts. Students will engage with each other to create supervised choreography for performances utilizing the skills they learn in class.
